Culturally and linguistically responsive practice (CLRP) involves seeking out knowledge of students’ cultural and familial backgrounds and using it to plan instruction. It entails understanding and using the cultural characteristics, experiences, and perspectives of students from culturally diverse backgrounds to help them connect to and understand new content. English learners benefit when connections are made from content they are learning and their own experiences and backgrounds.
