Most MTSS/RTI frameworks do not include screening and progress monitoring of oral language development. Learn about strategies teachers can use to assess oral language skills in the first and second language.
● Learning Objectives:
o Articulate the rationale for ensuring that English Learners have effective communication skills in their first language and/or in English as a second language
o Understand the connections between oral language skills and reading achievement
o Learn informal strategies for assessing oral language skills (conversation samples, dictation, cloze, personal narrative assessment)
o Analyze data to plan instruction and intervention
o Integrate instructional strategies that simultaneously support oral language and literacy development
o Identify students who may benefit from referral to special education
